Iran / 2008 / 94 min / Dir. Manijeh Hekmat / Farsi with English subtitles
Short Synopsis – Hekmat`s tale of three women in contemporary Iran is woven together as the threads of the lives of mother, grandmother and daughter are slowly unravelled. Minoo tries to rescue an antique rug for the museum and in the process her mother and daughter, Pegah, are lost.
At first set in the city the spectator is moved, seemingly back in time, to the more traditional world of the rural environment. A hint of an earlier history is revealed as the young man Pegah has met on her journey, tries to piece together the shards of an ancient pottery he has unearthed.
This poetic film raises issue about the lives of contemporary women in Iran. As intricate as the warp and weft of beautiful Persian rug, it is no less intriguing.
