Every little girl has tried her mother’s shoes at least once, and played the catwalk with them, feeling all the more fabulous if the shoes had high heels.
Born in the 16th century and worn by aristocrats as a hallmark that distinguished them from lower social classes, this type of footwear began to spread very quickly. Since such time the fad spread across countries, cultures and all levels of society. From starting with short heels- clearly wearable for gents too- then came a more detailed lady’s slipper, around which a truly incredible fashion trend grew.
Today shoes with heels are very different from that period. Designers style unconventional shapes, colors, materials, designs and heights. Heel height can reach 12 or more centimeters (sometimes even up to 20cm on plateaux!) and any fashionable girl will do anything to have such an accessory in her closet.
But all of these characteristics have a price, which can be steep. Authentic addicts know that stylish shoes are very expensive; because most of them are hand made, are styled with innovative designs and come from the big fashion centers like Italy, France and the United States.
Indeed in the States we see a number of celebrity examples who have begun wearing more and more precious and luxurious high heels. Sarah Jessica Parker- who played the role of Carrie in Sex And The City- started a real stiletto craze.
But she is not the only one to stand out. Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian are not to be seen without their famous Daffodile by Christian Louboutin; Lady Gaga without the amazing Armadillo by Alexander McQueen; Mariah Carey, Eva Longoria, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera and many more can all be added to the list.
On average ladies buy at least two pairs of heels every month, according to a recent English study. This is why the high heels market makes up an important share of women’s expenditure. Keeping in mind that high heels can cost up to £2,000, it is easy to understand how this can be the case.
The shoes are painful and possibly unhealthy to wear. Indeed many doctors and orthopedics have tried to start a battle against “killer heels” to convince women that wearing them is unsafe for the spinal column and feet bones. Nevertheless women cannot give up to the fascinating figure that heels give the female body.
High heel shoes help women have a more elegant walk and underline their femininity. The shoes are ever more carefully crafted and finely detailed accessories, often resembling real jewels or sculptures. Fashion designers do their best to satisfy the high and wild demand that grows day by day.
