Italian Navy Ship Luigi Durand de la Penne in London’s port

The Italian Ship Luigi Durand de la Penne, destroyer led by Captain Ostilio de Majo, will arrive in
London on 07th August.
This port call will take place in the framework of summer campaign to train the Italian Navy Academy
Cadets and after completing their first challenging and exciting sailing experience onboard of a
warship.
The training campaign, for the first time conducted onboard the destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne,
is a “baptism of the sea” for the young cadets and future Officers that, after an intense year of study,
will be able to carry out, on first line unit, the theoretical knowledge learned. The exciting opportunity
to live new professional experiences and learn to be an Officer, will be unforgettable. Cadets are
subjected to a challenging training program involving various activities ranging from the conduct of
navigation, the government of a naval unit, basic management of onboard sensors, and typical
seamanship skills. The period onboard the destroyer Luigi Durand de la Penne, with its wide range of
equipment and sensors, is an excellent chance for learning and training for these young future
Officers.
During the stop numerous protocol visits will take place involving military and political authority. In
addition, cultural exchange initiatives will take place. The port of London is the third stop-over of the
training campaign, which will continue into the Atlantic Ocean, and then returning in the
Mediterranean Sea with its impressive crossing of the Pillars of Hercules.
