19 September – Scotland voted to stay in the U.K. In a referendum on indipendence during the all day 18 September from the 7 am to 10 pm. After 2 years debate and 307 years-old union the 55,3 % of Scottish voters supported the “no” campaign against 44,7% who backed indipendence.
The 90% of the whole electorate of the 32 Scottish regions went to vote.
“I accept the verdict” of the people, Alex Salmond, the leader of Scotland’s semi-autonomous government in Edimburgh.
Cameron said the Scottish people had spoken and “we hear you”. “We will ensure those commitments are honored in full” he said.
The pound erased the gains it made versus the dollar after Scots rejected indipendence, and was flat on the day at $1,6396 as of 10.36 am in London, but it is still stronger versus the Euro.
