In Mali there is ‘a war, a conflict that’s been forgotten.
What are happening in Mali? And why did the conflict start?
To understand what the situation is today in this country and in a lot of different countries in Africa, it’s necessary to talk from the beginner of the crisis.
The conflict, definite as non-international war, started on January 2012 when a group of rebels was trying to obtained the independence of Azaward, a north area in Mali. This group was called MNLA, National Movement for the liberation of Azaward. Mali’s three largest cities, Kidal, Gao, and Timbuktu were overrun by revolutionaries. On march, an Islamist group guided by Al-Qaeda realized an “coup d’etat” against the Malian government.
The rights’ violations using weapons and violences against civil population got worse the situation between revolutionary rebels, MNLA and Al Qaeda, and the legitimate government.
So it was obliged to ask the intervention of U.N. that emanated Council-resolutions which established the instauration of a peacekeeping force in Mali to restore peace and legality.
The situation is still complicated today. The desperate context has encouraged the France to intervene supporting government with military helps without an clear Council authorization. Some African States intervene helping the Malian Army, as well the France.
Today the conflict continues to develop but no one talk about it. It seems as if television, newspaper, social network are forgetting the difficult situation in this African country.
But we can’t forget about a terrible Malian status. So now we can just wait for future progressions. And we hope about positive future advancements.
