London- Our next screening will be at Genesis Cinema one month after Christmas Day
More than 500 people attended the fist three screenings for the season of new Italian films
London, 18 December 2014 – Sunday 25 January will be the first appointment of 2015 by CinemaItaliaUK. The company screens modern Italian films not yet distributed in the UK, thanks to the support of the Italian Consulate and the Italian Cultural Institute.
The location is Genesis Cinema, one of the best in London according to recent surveys. In the last three months more than 500 people attended the first three films of the season: “Spaghetti Story” by Ciro De Caro in the presence of the film director, “I Can Quit Whenever I Want” (Smetto Quando Voglio) by Sydney Sibilia in the presence of the leading actor Edoardo Leo, and “Song’e Napule” by Manetti Bros last Sunday 14 December.
The CinemaItaliaUK director Clara Caleo Green says: “The result has been fantastic. We are confident that we can repeat such success in the months to come. There is a huge Italian community in London and also many British and non British people that learn Italian who are interested in our project”.
All the films are in Italian with English subtitles. After each screening they are followed by an event such as a Q&A (hosted by experts or a journalist, such as the actress Monica Nappo, the researcher Andrea Pisauro and the journalist Federico Gatti) or a live show by talented Italian artists (last Sunday there was the cabaret “Ladies&Gentlemen Buonasera! by Monica Salvi and Simone Douani). Italian wine and regional food was also included in the ticket price.

CinemaItaliaUK is a new company which promotes new Italian films in the UK. CinemaItaliaUK artistic director Clara Caleo Green says: “Our aim is to source new gems and create a regular appointment for lovers of Italian films both in London and in the UK. For the first time, once a month, Londoners will watch new films – with English subtitles – recently released in Italy and not yet in DVD on the English market”. Up to now Italian films were screened mainly during festivals, special occasions and Institutional venues (see the excellent programme at the Italian Cultural Institute directed by Caterina Cardona, or the French cinema Lumiere)”.
