A plate of pasta to help a country to reborn. It is the new challenge for the Italian chefs who live and work in Britain. Soon after the earthquake that destroyed some cities in the centre of Italy, chefs around UK are offering in their restaurant’s menu the Amatriciana Bucatini and for each dish they sell, they will donate a pound, to be allocated to a fund that will be used for reconstruction in Rieti and Ascoli’s areas, that have been affected by the earthquake in August.
The project is held by the Association of Professional Italian Chefs in UK (APCI-UK). “There has been much controversy over funds, aid and projects,” said APCI-UK President Carmelo Carnevale, “but now it’s time to take actions and even from across the Channel Italian chefs feel close to their country and want to help”. For this reason, APCI-UK, supported by the Italian Consul General Massimiliano Mazzanti, has decided to expand in the British territory the initiative already active in Italy know as: the “Amatriciana Week”.
Every Italian restaurant will add to its menu the Amatriciana Bucatini as a typical dish of the town of Amatrice, destroyed by the earthquake. For each plate sold one pound will be donated as a contribution to the immediate needs of affected families. The initiative will be continued until the 7th of November, when in London will begin the event “Gusto Italia” (www.gustoitaliauk.com), a big show room of Italian food and wine, created to develop business and culture. During the gala, the money collected will be delivered to the Consulate to be sent to Amatrice for the reconstruction.
