 Naomi Campbell’s declared more than once that there are not enough black models on the catwalks and generally in the fashion industry. For 5 years now Top Model of Colour competition is trying to even this odds introducing to the fashion world new models that hopefully will be integrated in a widespread environment and not only for a small category of magazines and advertising.

This competition, created by Sola Oyebade opened the doors to fashion shows and fashion shoots to quite a few of these young contestants. Even if they did not win, the final evening gave them a platform where they could be noticed and became singers, models, designers and other professions linked with the media.

And this year at the Porchester Hall the show has been breathtaking, to see all these models, some of them with no experience at all in the modelling industry, but nonetheless putting up a show beautifully and with professionalism it has been a real pleasure.

Some of them came from abroad, from GhanaSierra LeoneNigeria and also United Kingdom. The rule number one to be included in this competition was belonging to African, or Asian, or Hispanic or mixed heritage and during months and months of a hard selection, the judges’ve choosen the 17 ladies and the 7 gentlemen to be in the Grand Finale, and from there they’ve chosen a male and a female model, or better a supermodel.

The prizes were very coveted with a modelling contract by Mahogany Model Management, magazine photoshoots, professional portfolio, front cover in magazines plus other prizes including outfits and money.

jason best tmc_1.jpgThis year winners were Nana Afua from Ghana, tall, beautiful and with a regal posture that charmed the judges, and Jason Daniel Best with a very positive attitude that made him win this title and pursue his career in become the first black supermodel from the United Kingdom.
