Ramadi has been retaken by defence government forces

After years of doubts and incertitude, finally from Iraq arrives a good news. The Iraqi prime minister, Haider al-Abadi has officially announced that the city of Ramadi has been retaken by the Iraqi defence forces. Now the national flag waves over the government buildings in Ramadi that had served as the terror group’s base in the city.
Ramadi, before the establishment of Islamic State, was an important city because was the capital of entire region, but with the creation and expansion of administrative power of Islamic State, Ramadi became one of the most strategic settlements for the Isis militias.

The inhabitants of Ramadi since 2011, year during which in Syria and Iraq erupted the conflict between the government and the rebels”, have been suffering a long series of atrocity and violence. Nevertheless after this important result the Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi vowed that the threat of Islamic State and its militants will not continue for along time.

The fall of the province’s capital to the militants was a sign of how far Iraq’s unravelling as a nation state had come since the overthrow in 2003 of Saddam Hussein’s regime, however now the prime minister Iraqi is sure that also Mosul, the other main stronghold Isis, will be liberate by the international coalition forces. Mosul, located in North Iraq, is the largest population centre in territory held by Isis in Iraq, anyway the premier Abadi said in a speech broadcast on state television that: “2016 will be the year of the big and final victory, when Daesh’s presence in Iraq will be terminated”.

However there was still indecision among the Iraqi officials about the liberation of Ramadi because while the national military forces had retaken the government complex, large parts of the city remained under Isis control but at the moment the situation is held by the Iraqi administration.

To celebrate this important achievement Barack Obama, informed of the event, during his holiday at the Hawaii, has released this message: “The continued progress of the Iraqi security forces in the fight to retake Ramadi is a testament to their courage and determination, and our shared commitment to push Isil out of its safe havens,” foto [Iracheno Haider al-Abadi]
The US Defense Secretary, Ash Carter, said: “The expulsion of Isil by Iraqi security forces is a significant step forward in the campaign to defeat this barbaric group.” The French president, François Hollande said that the reconquest of Ramadi was the most important victory in the fight against the international terrorism and the Germany’s foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, said “it shows once again that Isis is not unbeatable”.
However this important result would have not been possible without the great support that the Royal Air Force gave to the Iraqi government.

Tornado and Typhoon jets as well as drones had destroyed targets including large groups of terrorists fighting Iraqi government forces. The RAF carried out a lot of missions and so played, once again, a key role in this complicated area of Middle East.

The famous Arch of Palmyra will be replicated in London and NY

The violence of so-called Islamic State does not threaten only the inhabitants of those areas in Syria and Iraq under administration of the Isis militias, but also the archeological sites dated before the establishment of Islam.

Nevertheless the administrations of London and New York have anticipated the aggressive initiatives of Islamic State and have decided to replicate the monumental entrance of Temple of Bel in Palmyra. The 15-metre structure is one of the few remaining parts of the 2,000-year-old Temple of Bel in the Syrian city, but the replicas of this arch will be put in the central places of: Trafalgar Square and Time Square, during the heritage week, that will take place in April.

This choice will represent a good signal of response against the terrible actions of these fundamentalist militants.

Since 2011, year during which erupted the Syrian conflict, the extremist fighters of Islamic State have been destroying a lot of ancient cities across Syria and Iraq, because their explicit target has always been that to erase every trace of a evidence of the Middle East’s pre-Islamic history.

Palmyra has been seriously hit, over the years, by the the fundamentalist militias of Isis, and its most important building: the famous temple consecrated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, was destroyed by these barbarian fighters.

Founded in AD32, the temple was the main centre of religious life in Palmyra. Known as the Pearl of the Desert, Palmyra (which means city of Palms) is located 130 miles north-east of Damascus. Before the Syrian conflict begun in 2011, more than 150,000 tourists visited the city every year, but now is become a ghost city.

However,by certain sources, it seems that the Temple of Bel’s entrance Arch has apparently survived to the attempt by Islamic State to raze it. Currently to send journalists in these critical areas of Syria and Iraq is very dangerous, therefore we cannot know with sure if this Arch is officially survived or not to the attempt to demolish it, but the news if confirmed would be very positive.

However the initiative taken by the administrations of London and New York it’s very important not only because will show to these fighters blinded of revenge that the force of the culture will triumph ever, but these replicas will keep intact the knowledge, for the next generations, of this important monument that, day by day, risks to being seriously razed.

IS THERE A PERFECT STORM ON THE HORIZON?

2015 ended with the Federal Reserve (Fed) raising rates for the first time in nearly a decade, a move which intended to signal the end of the so-called “zero lower  bound era”.

My belief is that the US rate hike came too early. True. The economy is expanding; however, inflation is still significantly below the 2% target. Additionally, the remaining US macroeconomic indicators have behaved quite erratically over the past year.

Maybe I am turning into a younger version Dr. Doom – American economist Nouriel Roubini – but I am not optimist at all for 2016.

If things turn nasty, then Fed Governor Janet Yellen may indeed be forced to roll back the rate increase just like former Ecb governor Trichet did in 2011 when he mistakenly thought that a hike would have sustained economic growth.

Here are three patterns to watch out for.

THE CHINESE ECONOMY CONTINUES TO SLOW DOWN. If China slows down, the US economy will slow down and play a knock-on impact on the World Economy. With the eurozone growth being already fragile, it would take very little to wipe out any (small) progress.

A BANKING CRISIS ERUPTS IN THE EUROZONE.

2016 could expose some weaknesses in the European banking sector as higher Basel III capital and liquidity requirements continue to be implemented. Watch-out for the Italian regional and cooperative banks. They are under pressure and could crack like German landesbanks did few years ago.

RUSSIA, MIDDLE EAST AND COMMODITIES. The third element to be wary of arises from geopolitical uncertainties. Brent oil, historically a geopolitical thermometer, and other energy commodities are currently (and many believe ‘artificially’) kept low.

Many countries that rely massively on natural resources could begin to struggle and implode if commodity prices do not return to mid-2014 levels. I am not a meteorologist. However I can see storm clouds gathering. Can’t you?

A great flood hit North England

London- A great and wide flood hit the North of England, the sky does not stop to dropping water and a lot of people lost all.

We don’t know if this series of natural disaster are the result of the Global Warming, but this crazy weather is causing a lot of problems to the inhabitants of North England who, rather then celebrate the Christmas and the New Year with own family members, are obligated to evacuate their houses.

Just four weeks ago the region of Cumbria was submerged by a bomb of water, but now that unpleasant event has been repeated in North England.

Almost 300/400 people will be evacuated by their homes located along the rivers Ouse and Foss, while in the city of York 3,500 homes are threatened by the incessant rain.

The flooding of river Irwell at Summerseat, caused the destruction of one of the most touristic attraction of the city. The powerful current of water brought away the old pub Waterside. Built on a side of a bridge, a sort of Anglo-Saxon version of “Ponte Vecchio in Florence”, the Waterside for more that two hundred years has represented one of the glories of the town. Unfortunately, being built with wood, this has not resisted to the pressure of the river Irwell and after collapsing in more points, was dragged away by the strong current.

It is still raining and the situation is becoming very critical for the population involved with this great flood.

David Cameron has immediately announced the “state of emergency” for the areas that have been hit by this “bomb of water”, meantime the the rescue teams and the firefighters are aiding the people of North England.

Diplomatic Dispute between UK and India around the possession of the most valuable diamond in the world

Since 1947, year during which the India obtained the independence, there has been a long “diplomatic dispute” between United Kingdom and India around the possession of an important and prestigious diamond.

The Mountain of Light or Koh-i-Noor (Persian; also spelled Kooh-è Noor) is a diamond that is believed to have been mined in the Kollur Mine in the Gunton district of Andhra Pradesh in India during the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty in the 13th.

The Koh-i-Noor became immediately famous for being one of the most valuable diamond in the world and for its enormous value was desired by the men most powerful and rich of whole Asia.

The possession of “The Mountain of Light” over the centuries has been changing, however the first owner was the King Babur descendant of Tamerlano whose ancestor was Genghis Khan.

The king Babur, founder of the Empire Mughal, held this precious stone until his death, nevertheless the diamond was kept by the Babur’s successors, all belonged at the Mughal family Empire.

After centuries in the hands of real descendants of Babur, following the invasion of Nader Shah, the Shah of the Persian Empire, in 1739 and the Battle of Karnal which led to the sacking of Agra and Delhi, the treasury of the Mughal Empire was looted by Nader Shah’s army in an organised acquisition of the Mughal nobility’s wealth.

After the assassination of Nāder Shāh in 1747 and the collapse of his vast Empire, the new possession passed on the hands of the Emir of Afghanistan. Despite the Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh forced him to surrender the stone and took possession of it.

The stone was kept by the successors of Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh until 1849, year during which the Britain Empire definitely annexed the entire region of India and completed its colonization in that area.

Thus the famous Koh-i-Noor since that date belongs to the real family of United Kingdom and it is became the most prestigious piece among the Crown jewels.

India has claimed the diamond and has said that the Koh-i-Noor was taken away illegally and that it should be given back to India. Queen Elizabeth II made a state visit to India marking the 50th anniversary of independence in 1997, many Indians in India and Britain demanded the return of the diamond.

On 21 February 2013, while visiting India, David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister, said of returning the diamond simply “They’re not having that back”.

The Queen’s Christmas Broadcast

We are approaching to the end of 2015 and like every year, in this particular moment of the year, the Queen Elizabeth II held her usual Christmas Broadcast not only for the citizens of Great Britain but also for the countries of Commonwealth, of which she is symbolic head.

The Queen Elizabeth II began her long reign over the United Kingdom and the other countries that belong at Commonwealth since 1952, year during which has been her official accession to the Crown.

From that moment till now she has always been a true protagonist of the national and international life of the United Kingdom.
In her Christmas speeches of the past she was used to wish “merry Christmas” and “happy new year”, but terminated these real greetings, she started to do a short brief about the main events happened over the months just passed.
This year has been rich of arguments that the Queen could have argued during her speech, in fact the economy of United Kingdom is increasing and the risk of another financial crisis is very far, although there are good economic signals for the future, the international situation in Libia and Middle East is still critical .

The huge immigration flows from the coast of North Africa toward the countries of European Union are affecting the whole Europe, but the true problem is the increasing of international terrorism.

So the Queen Elizabeth II with her last Christmas broadcast wanted to give us a viewpoint about the situation of international terrorism.
She highlighted how the 2015 began with a series of sad and tragic events for the West.

The terrorist attacks in Paris, first into the offices of French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo and after at the Kosher supermarket, near the Porte de Vincennes, scared the people of European Union and almost caused the end of the free circulation between the countries that belong at the concordat Schengen.

After those assaults in Paris, the threat of the Islamic terrorism did not stop its violence in that occasion and a few days later organised other attacks also in Denmark, Belgium and Tunisia.
Unfortunately in November 2015 the Europe and its citizens, are fallen again under the fear of Islamic Terrorism. A command compound by members belonged to Islamic State, entered into the Bataclan Arena, located once again in Paris, and opened the fire against the spectators who where watching the concert and killed more of one hundred people.

We must not to allow that these fundamentalist terrorists could frighten and put under pressure our continent of wealth and peace, so each of us should give his contribute to stop definitely this Islamic State. Therefore the Queen used her Christmas day address to emphasise that light can triumph over moments of darkness saying this: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”. Furthermore the Queen described the festive period as “a time to remember all that we have to be grateful for”.
However she wanted to remind that 2015 has been the year that marked the 70th anniversary of the World War II, thus the Queen renewed thanks for the service and sacrifice of those who took part in the conflict.

Using a citation by the same Elizabeth II: “the life of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose birth we celebrate today, is an inspiration and an anchor in my life. A role-model of reconciliation and forgiveness, he stretched out his hands in love, acceptance and healing.

Christ’s example has taught me to seek to respect and value all people of whatever faith or none”. Her viewpoint could be an interesting beginning to attempt to do something to change the word with a hope of a better destiny.

London to celebrate 40 years of punk culture in 2016

London- On this day in 1976 the Sex Pistols released their infamous debut single ‘Anarchy in
the UK’. Today London’s leading cultural venues announced plans to celebrate the legacy
and continuing influence of London’s punk scene throughout 2016.

Live gigs, talks, films, exhibitions and museum displays are all part of a year-long
celebration of subversive culture. Not only will punk’s roots in London be explored,
but also its on-going influence on modern day culture and society, from fashion to film,
politics to identity, and of course music.

Punk London will kick off with the Resolution Festival from 4 to 14 January 2016 at The
100 Club, the world-renowned music venue that hosted the legendary two-day 100 Club
Punk Festival in September 1976.
Other organisations involved in Punk London include the British Fashion Council,
British Film Institute, British Library, Design Museum, Doc ‘n Roll Films, Institute
of Contemporary Arts, Live Nation Merchandise, Museum of London, The Photographers’
Gallery, Rough Trade, PYMCA, Premier and On|Off, Roundhouse and Universal Music
Catalogue.

In keeping with punk’s grass roots ethos, punk fans up and down the country are being
encouraged to create their own events.

A new Punk London logo and type face, designed by punk-influenced graphic designed
Neville Brody, has been commissioned for the year.

01Neville Brody said:
“It has been an honour to be asked to develop the core design DNA of Punk London
for 2016’s 40th anniversary. To be able to take a current view on a vital era which
had so much creative impact and influence as well as forming many of my own ideas
and approaches, has been a revelation, seeing so much contemporary relevancy within
its remit and intent. The era feels fresh, and a year-long celebration will provide
inspiration to many who will find its core ideas newly resonant and inspiring.”
Reflecting that there is as much interest in punks today as there was in 1976, Punk
London has received a £99,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Stuart Hobley, Head of HLF London said:
“Punk smashed its way onto the UK’s music scene in the 70s, with its base largely in
London, and profoundly changed not only music but art, fashion and culture forever,
giving many disillusioned young people a voice for the first time. Punk is as iconic
to the UK’s heritage story as Stonehenge and the British Museum and we’re delighted
to support the Punk London cultural programme and want to encourage people across the
country to celebrate their own punk heritage in 2016.”
Jeff Horton, 100 Club, said:
“Punk London is a chance to celebrate the period of music history that excited like no
other. Angry, Rebellious, Loud and Brilliant. It turned the world to colour and changed
society forever.”

From Pistoia will start the production of 29 new trains for UK

Has been announced a great news from the Italian industrial sector, especially on the field of transport, in fact seems the the United Kingdom confirmed the purchase of a new fleet of train for the next year.

On July 2015 has been signed the agreement for the delivery of new 29 train between the Hitachi Rail Italy and the Great Western Railway.

The Hitachi group, founded in 1910 by electrical engineer Namihei Odaira in Ibaraki Prefecture, since 1918 its headquarters was moved to Tokyo.

Hitachi group is one of the most important industrial conglomerate of the world and, over the years, there has been a long industrial relationship between this this great company and our country.

I want to remember that some years ago FIAT industrial found an important accord with Hitachi for the production of new hydraulic excavators.

Now there is another strong link but not in the field of working machines but in which of transport and train. During 2015 Hitachi acquired the great Italian company Ansaldo-Breda, previously belonged at Finmeccanica.

Ansaldo-Breda has been for year an important leader for the production of trains and other vehicles of transport, but now Hitachi with is important acquisition is official become one of the most important group in the world on the field of rail transport.

The recent agreement signed between Hitachi and the Great Western Railway forecasts the production of 29 new trains AT 300 for serving the railways between London Paddington and the cities of Plymouth e Penzance, located at west of the country.

This contract worth over 500 millions of euro and will employ thousands of Italian worker in fact the entire production will be done at the plant that Hitachi has in Pistoia.

For this Tuscany establishment will be a great honour build trains for the renowned and prestigious Great Western Railway. The Great Britain played a leader role during the beginnings of the railways and the Gwr has been accompanying the growth of Great Britain on the field of railway transport.

The Great Western Railways is so famous in England that the romanticism Pinter J.M.W Turner dedicated his great painting entitled: Rain, Steam and Speed, own to the Great Wester Railway.

Pistoia and its citizens received an important task, but the expertise of the workers and the managers of this factory of train will guarantee a great and excellent final work.
