Fuoricinema: the happening for musicologists and cinephiles

MILAN – “Fuoricinema” is an happening born from an idea by Cristiana Capotondi and Cristiana Mainardi in collaboration with Anteo SpazioCinema, which aims at collecting life experiences, opinions and dreams linked to the world of cinema in order to spread them around as a shared heritage. It will be an exclusive outdoor event of sharing, highly influenced by its setting, Milan, city of fashion and design. The event will also raise funds to support three charities from Milan: Fondazione Arché, Missione Sogni and Associazione Bianca.

The long-term project will see a different theme for each year: this year’s theme is “dream“, seen as a vital energy which allows us to overcome reality and create a better reality. The event will take place in a wide area in front of via Gaetano de Castillia and many artists coming from the the world of music, cinema and entertainment will give their contribution: they will be able to share their stories with the public, in a very unique and intimate way.

A new project is set to be launched before next year’s edition: a Fuoricinema event will be organized once a month, and the philosophy of this event will be constantly shared through the official website.

In the words of Cristiana Capotondi, one of the organizers, the main aim of the happening is to put people before products and to deepen a relationship between the public and artists, in order to support the importance of diversity, through the undying support of arts, especially cinema and music.

Pink Floyd: “The early years 1965-1972” box and V&A exhibition

LONDON – Pink Floyd have released a new video for their early track “Grantchester Meadows“, taken from their “The Early Years 1965-1972” box set, which will be released in full on November 11th. The audio track for this song was recorded at the BBC studios in 1969, while the original footage was shot in San Francisco one year later. As declared by Pink Floyd themselves, this song is Roger Water’s and was originally performed solo on the Ummagumma album. This box set will include 20 unheard tracks, seven hours of live material and three feature films. Furthermore, a double-disc highlights album entitled “The Early Years – Cre/Ation” will be released alongside the set.


This is not the only good news for Pink Floyd fans from all over the world and especially for those who live in London: starting from May 13th next year, which marks the 50th anniversary since the release of the band’s first single, the Victoria and Albert Museum will host “The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains” which will feature a laser light show and previously unseen concert footage as well as more than 350 objects and artefacts including instruments, handwritten lyrics, posters, architectural drawings and psychedelic prints, will lead visitors throughout a 50-year-long music journey.

The V&A opened ticket sales and announced the exhibition by flying a giant inflatable pink pig near the museum’s entrance, a clear reference to the event in Battersea which became the cover of the band’s album Animals, released in 1977. The exhibition will go on until October 2017.

Just in case some of you don’t know what Etsy is, it’s a peer-to-peer (P2P) e-commerce website focused on handmade or vintage items and supplies, as well as unique factory-manufactured items. On Friday, 20 makers will be selling their wares, giving visitors the chance to pick up everything from plant pots, vases, jewellery and notebooks to handmade vessels, mobile phone covers and pretty little paperweights. On Saturday, it is definitely a must – if the weather will cooperates – to go and spend a proper day on Camden Beach, set on the roof of Chalk Farm’s Roundhouse. Entry is free but it does get quite busy so make sure you head there quite early if you want to have a sure sunny spot. Otherwise, you can book one of the private beach huts and you’ll have way more personal space. You’ll be able to relax in a deck chair with a rum cocktail, play a little ping pong, grab some food from the barbecue or build a magnificent sandcastle. And now we get to the main event of the weekend, of the week, of the month and probably one of the most awaited of the whole summer in London: on Sunday 28th, make sure you take the whole day off to go and enjoy the Notting Hill Carnival, Europe’s biggest street festival, a vivid spectacle representing London’s multicultural past and present. It’s also a vital date in any party-lover’s diary. It will start on Sunday at 9am and it will continue into Monday; it takes place all over the W10 area: Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. If some of you are not familiar with the origin of this festival, it is A celebration of the capital’s Caribbean communities, their culture and traditions, which has been taking place since 1964, featuring two days of fantastic live music ranging from reggae to dub to salsa. The celebrations also include soca floats, steel bands and a whole lot of jerk chicken and fried plantain. [x]

Sara Galimberti comes back with her new electro-dance single, “High Heels”

At the end of each episode of “Tacco12!…E non solo“, a programme that goes on air on La7d, whoever was paying enough attention was already able to catch the notes of High Heels: that’s the title of the new single by Sara Galimberti, an electro-dance song with some pop vibes in it, way different from the songs the singer has produced since her participation at the Sanremo Festival in 2007.

“When I was asked by the producers of “Tacco12!.. E non solo” to write and compose the opening song of the programme, I was both deeply honoured and astonished. A minute later, though, I was already working on it. I thought about how to create a song that could suit a glamour programme, with a public mainly made up of women and that could, at the same time, express that powerful feeling each woman gets when she’s wearing a 5-inch heel“, she said. She then added: “Starting from that sensation I started to explore sounds and atmospheres that had a 80s vibe, as well as modern and daring bits in them. High Heels is a song that represents me: fresh, gritty and energetic. I see it as a nice electro-dance break inside my repertoire. Shortly, I will go back working on my upcoming album, which has a melodic rock vibe to it. In the meanwhile I hope many people will dance to High Heels, available on iTunes and other music platforms.”

Sara Galimberti is not stopping her live activities either: she has been playing in some of the most famous cultural events all around Italy, like the “Le Giornate di Cinema della Basilicata” in Maratea and the “Premio Nazionale dell’Accoglienza”, where she shared the stage with more than just well-known artists, like Al Bano and Massimo di Cataldo. On August 27th, she will receive the award for “Songwriter of the Year”, during the Premio Stelle del Sud event, in Camigliatello Silano.

“Pure McCartney”: 360° view of Sir Paul

Paul is NOT dead, and his latest work shows it for sure.

The legendary Beatles bass player has never ceased to marvel the audience, thanks to his inventive attitude and his love for tech innovations, and with the album “Pure McCartney”, out on June 10th, he promotes a greatest hits collection through the new born 360° video technology, which allows the viewer to share the recording studio with the artist.Pure-McCartney

McCartney collaborated with Jaunt VR team to shoot the videos matching the album, working alongside director Tony Kaye (Grammy winner author of “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum, e “Dani California” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, just to name a few), sound engineer Geoff Emerick and executive producers Cliff Plumer, Lucas Wilson e Doug Allenstein.

Cliff Plumer, President of Jaunt Studios, sums up McCartney creative flair by saying: “With virtual reality, Paul McCartney is taking the most innovative step yet; he’s connecting directly with his fans, to share his innermost thoughts and experiences, in an entirely new, personal and immersive way.”

After all McCartney himself has stated that he wanted to create this retrospective album to give the people something fun, jolly and cheerful to enjoy, whether you listen to it: “on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends. “Bowie by Gerald Fearnley”: the Thin White Duke’s debut on display in London

London is getting ready to admire David Bowie in one of his earliest artistic incarnations, through the work of the photographer Gerald Fearnley, six months after his untimely demise.

David Bowie was one of the most prolific and eclectic artists in the history of contemporary music: thanks to his constant transformations, we had the chance to live a musical adventure, in which he took us from the colorful Brixton district where he was born, to the dreary astral heights of Mars, becoming the storyteller who could charm three generations with unchanged elegance, either singing about earthly realities or out-of-this-world fantasies.

A highly acclaimed exhibition, “David Bowie Is” curated by the Victoria & Albert Museum had already retraced the artistic journey, and stylistic developments that have characterized his career, describing how with his work the artist has managed to reinterpret the latest trends of art, design, theater and contemporary culture; starting its journey from London, after a sold-out lasted several months, the exhibition began to tour the world, touching Chicago, St. Paul, Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Melbourne and Groningen, and arriving in Italy from July 14th to November 13th, 2016 at MAMbo in Bologna.

From August 16th to September 24th, London will return to talk about Bowie with the exhibition “Bowie by Gerald Fearnley“, a series of never seen portraits, made in 1967, at the very beginning of his musical career. The importance of these pictures is given by the background of the photographer Gerald Fearnley: in fact he is the brother of Dek, bassist in the band which debuted with the White Duke, and back then, he found himself working with Bowie because the band was using Fearnley’s family house in Worcester Park, Surrey, to rehearse new songs; it was Gerald himself, who took the picture featured on the cover of Bowie’s first album.

The photos on display in the exhibition date back exactly to that period; in those 15 unpublished black & white portraits, we can feel an intimate, retro vibe, and spot Bowie’s enjoyment in experimenting playful and unconventional poses.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to appreciate yet another side of the multifaceted personality of one of the greatest artists of English music, and at the same time it’s a fantastic opportunity for collectors, who will be able to buy one of the limited editions signed by Fearnley himself.

PUGLIA SOUNDS IN LONDON 2012 8th – 09th – 10th October 2012

Puglia Sounds in London, a great festival dedicated to the discovery of Puglia and the sounds of his homeland, will be held at the Koko and Dingwalls, two prestigious venues always trodden by international artists such as Noel Gallagher , Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amy Winehouse and many others.

An intense three days dedicated to the sounds of Puglia – a region located in the South of Italy – from reggae to jazz, from folk to rock concerts with some of the most representative musicians of Puglia: Sud Sound System, Nicola Conte, Emma, Erica Mou, Populous, We Ladies feat Mama Marjas, Miss Mikela and Sista Women in Reggae, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, Livio Minafra, Nidi d’Arac, Radiodervish, La Fame di Camilla, Serpenti and Larssen.

Puglia Sounds in London is organized by TIJ Events, with the support of Puglia Sounds, Puglia Region program for the development of the music system and the Regional Tourism Agency “Pugliapromozione” . Reggae and dub lovers will be amazed by the sounds of Sud Sound System, mixing the Salento dialect with the reggae music they were the pioneers of a music movement that has lasted more than 20 years, and Mama and Miss Marjas Mykela supported by London-based band “

Sista Women in Reggae” they will present their project “We Ladies” produced by Adrian Sherwood. On Monday the 8th LARSSEN – awarded by media as a true dubstep and post-garage Italian pioneer, resident dj for Nasty FM, he played with MC Navigator, Africa Hitech, Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton – will close the night playing some of his songs. You can also listen to jazz music with NICOLA CONTE (Cult DJ, producer and re-mixing nu-jazz) and Livio Minafra, twice winner of the Top Jazz Prize.

If you have always wanted to go to the “Notte della Taranta” this is the chance to have a “bite” of the night with the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, formed in 1975 this is the most famous band playing the traditional music of Salento, and with Radiodervish, their music represents the Mediterranean area, a connection point between East and West.

During the three days you will also listen to the more experimental side of electronic music from Puglia: performing on stage will be Populous (three albums with the historic record label Morr Music in Berlin), NIDI D’ARAC, they have been mixing electronic and traditional music for more than a decade and opening act for Robert Plant, and SERPENTI (opening act for Gossip, Natalie Imbruglia, Cornershop, The Horrors, Asian Dub Foundation and many others). But Puglia is also rock and so are EMMA, the main Italian pop singer, ERICA MOU, this 22 years songwriter has already played at the Heineken Jamming Festival, and LA FAME DI CAMILLA: one of the most popular rock band in Italy.

Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2012

Cambridge Early Music Concerts 2012 –Italy was the source of many of the musical innovations of the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. From the plainchant of church worship arose the laude – popular devotional songs – in the fourteenth century, and from these developed frottole, both sacred and secular; in turn these became madrigals and led to the madrigalian style of vocal music.

Meanwhile innovators such as Monteverdi and Caccini were developing their theories of the prima and seconda prattica, ostensibly harking back to the rhetorical style used in the ancient world. Side by side with the progress of vocal music came the transformation of the viola d’arco to the much more versatile violin, and the development of the alta loud wind band into a more refined incarnation; a whole new style of music infiltrated not only the secular world but also the church. The instrumental sonata was adopted as part of the liturgy, giving it a legitimacy it might not otherwise have attained. Suddenly instrumental music broke out of its religious and vocal bonds and stood in its own right.

Our Festival of Italian Music explores this fertile period, which influenced the music of the world. From the frottola to the virtuoso sonata, from the glorious brass of Gabrieli to the fully-fledged baroque orchestra of Vivaldi, we are invited to taste the delights of the land of sunshine and music.

We welcome some of Europe’s foremost performers of these genres: La Serenissima – the Vivaldi orchestra par excellence;Pavlo Beznosiuk and Paula Chateauneuf, known to many from their work with the Academy of Ancient Music; VivaBiancaLuna Biffi, unique in the world of medieval music; Julian Perkins, one of the leaders of the new generation of virtuoso keyboard players in the UK; and, opening our Festival, we’re delighted to welcomeQuintEssential Sackbut and Cornett Ensemble and tenor Nicholas Mulroy.

Our Festival weekend also includes a guided tour of the early Italian art in the Fitzwilliam Museum, led by a distinguished expert; and VivaBiancaLuna Biffi will share some of the secrets of the world of the frottola in a family-friendly workshop.

SUBSONICA LIVE IN LONDON

Subsonica were formed in Turin in 1996 by underground producer and Africa Unite guitarist Max Casacci and singer Samuel Romano, who soon after also enrolled keyboardist and long time friend Boosta, together with Ninja and Pierfunk to complete (on drums and bass respectively) a straightforward and top-notch rhythm section.

The eponymous debut album came in ’97, shortly followed by a stunning performance, opening for U2, on the MTV Day main stage.

The album included the collaboration with iconic pop singer Antonella Ruggiero: the cover version of her “Per Un’Ora D’Amore” became a radio hit, and paved the way for the album, which soldover 200.000 copies. The follow-up album came in 1999: for “Microchip Emozionale” (winner of the Italian Music Award), Vicio became the band’s new bass player.

The buzz around Subsonica was huge, but still most “official media” seemed not to cwere about the band, until they decided, surprisingly, to compete at the following year’s Sanremo Festival with an explicit and uncompromising track, “Tutti i miei sbagli”, in which they mixed house-beats with furious electric guitars. Subsonica were now definitely on the map both for the critics and the more mainstream audience.

Thus they could go back to touring, just in time to gain the award for “Best Italian Act” at the MTV EMA’s. With their third CD, called “Amorematico” (January 2002), the band explored new sounds, sometimes anticipating future international trends. It sold over 100.000 copies, and they played in front of over 350.000 people during the following tour dates.

They then decided to release a live album (“Controllo del livello di rombo”, 2003), and again they secured the best Italian band award from MTV.

With more explorations and new horizons in mind, the 2005 studio album “Terrestre” was more rock and electric. It immediately topped the Italian album charts, and sold over 110.000 copies in the first month after being released.

The attention it ignited was huge, and it was followed shortly by a live dvd and double cdwhich included some unreleased acoustic tracks. “L’Eclissi”, fifth studio album, hits the shelves on Nov 23rd 2007. The following tour sold out at all main Italian cities, as well as in Bruxelles and London.

The video for “Quattrodieci” opened the 4th season of “Lost” on Fox Italy. Subsonica then decided to remaster and retouch the highlights and gems from their catalogue: the collection “Nel vuoto per mano” was released on October 2008, to document the band’s first 12 years, it also contained a new, unreleased track, “Il vento” On April 22nd 2009, Subsonica represented Italian music at the World Earth Day concert in Rome. Since January 2010 the band has been behind all music breaks and jingles of national FM radio RadioRai2. In Summer 2010 Subsonica were one of only a handful of Italian bands to be guests on Sziget Festival Main Stage.

On March 8th 2011 the band released a new album, Eden, which became a huge success shortly after opening at #2 in the italian chart. The first single off the album, Istrice, was one of the most played songs on italian radio and the spring tour brought about a total of over 90.000 tickets sold over 11 gigs.

In summer Subsonica started a new tour, 25 dates all over Italy for more than 200.000 tickets sold. In November the band published the repackaging of Eden with two new songs, and they started an acoustic tour, 10 gigs in theatres to end on December 10th 2011.
