London (Rosita Dagh) Italy and UK established a new bilateral relationship on climate change during the Pontignano Conference.
The event took place in London on February 25th.
The Italian and English governments came together to find new solutions to the issues that affect our planet.
Climate change remains one core subjects of global debate to which everyone is called to do something on the matter. In fact, world leaders will join COP26 (Conference of the Parties) in Glasgow next November 2020.
Now the goal of the United Kingdom and Italy is to apply the “Pontignano” method to bring new ideas and projects at the COP26 wich are aimed at reducing CO2 emissions.
Today The Pontignano Co-President, Carlo Calenda and Lord Willetts, hosted 100 people from the local journalists, politicians and experts at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London, to discuss how to overcome current obstacles related to the climate change.

The event was also attended by the Minister for the Enviroment, Food and Rural Affairs, Zac Goldsmith, who insisted on the fact that in UK, since 2014, we have assisted to very high temperatures never seen before but, at the same time, he highlighted how the British citizens have always been activeto propose new solutions to the government.
“The population has immediately shown interest and willingness to stop this problem” – he said.
Therefore, the Minister concluded that the success of COP26 is not about convinceing people to do something on climate change, but convinceing them of leaders’ capability to take serious measures to protect our planet.

Since the launch of the criminal investigation into the Grenfell Tower fire, the Met has been working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service.
As the Grenfell Tower Inquiry (GTI) has progressed, both the police senior investigating officer and the CPS agree that the police investigation must take into account any findings or reports produced by the GTI, including its final report.
If the police investigation concludes there is sufficient evidence to consider criminal charges in relation to the fire, a file will be submitted to the CPS for its consideration.
The GTI has previously stated that it is unlikely phase 2 public hearings will begin before the end of 2019.
The publication of any final inquiry report will follow phase 2 hearings and so the Met’s assessment is that any file submission to the CPS is unlikely to be sooner than the latter part of 2021.
Detective Superintendent Matt Bonner, who leads the investigation into the fire, said: “We have always said our investigation will be thorough, exploring all reasonable lines of enquiry and examining all the available evidence.
“While the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and the police investigation are independent of each other, our timelines are inextricably linked. For our investigation to be considered thorough and complete, it must consider all relevant information and it would be wrong not to take into account evidence given to the public inquiry and its final report and findings.
“We are in regular contact with the bereaved families and survivors as well as the wider community, and have informed them of our projected timeline for the investigation. I know this is longer than some might have anticipated, but the police must ensure all the available evidence is considered before any file is submitted to the CPS.”

The informal Summit in Salzburg will be the first time for the EU leaders to sit together since Theresa May presented her “Chequers Brexit” proposal to them.
The Brexit deal is about the future relationships between the EU and the UK and it is putting on table “what we think is the right plan for the UK and deliver a good deal for the EU”, said Theresa May.

Many of the 88 existing constellations officially recognised by the International Astronomical Union are based on the zodiac and figures from ancient Greek and Roman mythology, but a new study has found these aren’t necessarily proving successful in enticing children today to look up to the stars – with 29% admitting they wouldn’t actually be able to recognise a single classical constellation.

The new project, entitled ‘Look Up To Stars’, centres on eight new constellations for the modern day – each one representing famous men and women that are inspiring to children from the worlds of sport, entertainment, science and activism – with a view to encouraging more young people to take up an interest in the universe.
In a study commissioned by The Big Bang Fair to mark the launch of the project, 72% of the 7-19 year-olds that were polled said they have never looked up at the night sky to find a constellation, while 29% admitted they wouldn’t be able to recognise a single classical constellation by name if shown them.

New creations from researchers include Harry Potter’s glasses to represent JK Rowling, a tennis racket for Serena Williams, a space-craft for Tim Peake, a blue whale for Sir David Attenborough and a book in honour of Malala Yousafzai.
Sir Mo Farah meanwhile has been immortalised in the form of an ‘M’ shape constellation after his renowned ‘Mobot’ celebration, with Usain Bolt is also celebrated through a pattern of stars that resembles his own celebratory lightning-bolt stance.
The new constellations are the work of experts at the University of Birmingham’s Astronomy Society. The process of developing the new constellations involved a careful analysis of star maps for different regions of the sky by researchers.
Emma Willett, who led the University of Birmingham research team, commented: “It was an honour to work alongside The Big Bang Fair to develop a new set of constellations for the modern day to encourage children today to look up to the stars. We really hope these new creations will help people of all ages develop their interest in space and astronomy, working to inspire the next generation of astronomers to take an interest in the field.”

LONDON – 15 September 2016 – UK universities and education institutions will benefit from the ‘Brexit effect’ as studying in the UK is now much cheaper for international students, according to new research by Western Union Business Solutions (‘WUBS’).
WUBS, a leader in global payment services, has analysed tuition fee payments data for the main overseas markets and found that tuition fees are up to a fifth (22.1%) cheaper than they were last year for some students. This will make studying in the UK much more affordable and more appealing to those coming to the UK for their degrees. This is expected to have a knock-on effect on UK universities competing for international students against leading academic centers in the U.S., Europe and Australia. Not only is the cost of tuition cheaper but it will also be much cheaper to live in the UK now as the cost of other essentials, such as food and accommodation, will also be significantly cheaper than they were pre-Brexit.
Studying in a UK university is very popular with students from across the world looking to further their education at a reputable institution. At present, some of the largest numbers of international students coming in to the UK to study are from China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, America and Eurozone countries. In fact, the latest UCAS figures reveal that more EU students are studying in the UK this year than ever before, with nearly 27,000 starting in September, which is a new record for the UK. As UK universities invoice students for tuition in pounds sterling, all of these students will find the cost has fallen this year due to how weak the pound is in comparison with their home currency.
Malaysian students will benefit from the biggest reduction as the Malaysian Ringgit has performed exceptionally well against the pound over the last year. Likewise Singapore students will find their tuition costs them 20% less and American students just over 17% less.

Even new students who haven’t studied in the UK before will find that the cost of their degree will be cheaper now than it was a few weeks ago. Since the EU referendum was held on 23 June, all students across key markets will have seen the cost of tuition become at least 10% cheaper for them.
Students from India will have seen the biggest fall in the cost of UK tuition, saving 14% compared to 23 June. They are closely followed by students in Malaysia (13.7%), USA (13.4%) and Saudi Arabia (13.4%), also saving similar amounts. While students based in the Eurozone will still have seen the cost of tuition fall by almost 12%, a saving equivalent to around £1,350.

Since the referendum, the government has being doing all it can to mitigate any economic downturn and strengthen the pound. Although the pound is relatively weak against these currencies at the moment, it is highly probable that it will strengthen again in the near future.
Commenting on the research, Tony Crivelli, UK & European Managing Director at Western Union Business Solutions, said:
“Studying abroad is not cheap, yet for students coming into the UK from overseas the cost of tuition is much cheaper than it has been for a year due to the relative weakness of the pound. This is great news for international students and means that they can get a world-class degree from a UK university for a much lower price.
“It is also good news for universities here as the UK has been one of the most expensive places to study in the world but now it is significantly cheaper than it has been for years. Students who are attracted to the UK by the cheaper cost this year will stay for three years on average to complete their degrees and so the benefit will be felt for years to come.
“There is no guarantee that the exchange rates will remain this favorable for long and the relative cost could soon increase again. We would urge all those who are due to pay invoices in sterling for their September tuition before their course starts to take advantage of the current rates and make their payments sooner rather than later where possible.”
