A draft bill for Italians abroad

London (Valeria Piccioni) – The new draft of the Italian Government deal takes into consideration the matter of Italians abroad’s.

“Regarding the Italian communities situated abroad, it is necessary to highlight knowledge and experience heritage in order to support Made in Italy, the Italian culture  and the Italian language all over the world. Furthermore, the election procedures in the foreign jurisdiction and the rappresentative institutions of the General Consulate (CGIE and COMITES) must be reformed. These measures will make these organisations more efficient, more transparent and less subjected to vote misrepresentations. Moreover,  concerning the COMITES and the CGIE, it is necessary to specifically reform the purposes of these institutions in order to blend them with the parliamentary representation. Finally, the diplomatic and consular net must be reformed in order to grant adequate services to the growing Italian communities that are settling permanently abroad” declares the final draft officially published on Friday.

Until now there has been a real negligence towards this matters: apparently, only the Italian citizens living in Italy seem to be considered whereas instead 4.2 millions of Italians abroad seem to be neglected.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the 18 Parliament members elected abroad from over 1 million and 100 thousand voters met for the first time during this legislation in the Chamber of Deputies. Are they conscious about the current lack of attention towards the Italians abroad? In the meantime, this meeting has highlighted some of the main issues of the Italian communities abroad which are:

  • Foundation of a “Bicameral Commission for the issues of Italians abroad”
  • Reform of voting procedures
  • The strengthening of Consular resources

It is important to remember the controversial relationship between the unborn Italian Government and Bruxelles. The faces of this new Government are still unknown, therefore Europe fears an Italian economical collapse. Recently, Salvini and Di Maio against Manfred Weber, exponent of the German CSU and president of the popular European party at the Europarliament who stated “Irrationals or populists actions could cause a new euro crisis” he said to them. “You are joking with fire because Italy is heavily indebted.”.

“Italians are tired of taking orders from Brussels and Berlin!” replies Mara Bizzotto, leader of the Lega in the European Parliament “Merkel and her proconsuls in Brussels always assembled and disassembled Italian governments according to German and their banks’ interests “.

Matt Graham is a British writer now settled in the USA well known for its talks about the untold facts about USA’s history. This journey  throughout the dark American routes started with Oliver Stone. The famous American writer and filmmaker was looking for a cowriter to complete his dream: a ten part documentary series about the unknown side of American History, now well known as “The Untold History of the United States”.

A writer who talks about other countries tales may be subjected to criticism but at the same time: “Outsiders often have the best perspectives because they can be objective and have fresh perspectives” – as Mr Graham said.

This is one of the reason why Oliver Stone chose him after having discovered to have in common the same passion: history. It was the Graham’s script about the British mercenaries in Angola in the 1970’s that caught the attention of Oliver Stone who decided to hire him.

From that time Matt has been recognised as a historical writer, now involved in several projects. He now lives and works in America. He told, one time, he is not the only one British writer who works in Hollywood. In order to get hired in those environments you have to: ‘write well and have good ideas’ – Matt underlines. 

However, there is a difference between writing in EU and writing in Hollywood: in the US writing means mainly ‘entertaining’. This is why a writer in LA can adapt his script in several ways, including TV and cinema and if you are not able to entertain your audience, then you will be easily cancelled.

Consequently, Matt Graham looks at LA as a centre of revolution in storytelling, in which writers can express theirselves more creatively. Nevertheless, ‘living by writing is very, very difficult’ says Matt, unless you are very ambitious and you keep to be perseverant in what you are doing and writing. 

Such profession was an occasion for Matt to discover the world by travelling  between Hollywood and Latin America for example and getting incredible experiences that a person can hardly forget in life. 

Amongst his trips, Matt got also the chance to write a movie in Mumbai recently, for example, directed by one of India’s biggest directors, Abhinay Deo. 

As he highlighted, such a life can be great and engaging as well as stressful but:  ‘its a price you pay without question if you’re creative and ambitious.  Those of us that do this, I think we all feel the same way’. 

 

EUROFESTIVAL – ITALY, WITH FRANCESCO GABBANI, IS FAVOURITE

According to bookmakers, Francesco Gabbani, with his song Occidentali’s Karma, is the favourite singer of Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

At the moment, many people are gambling and Italy is quoted at 2.37 by bet365.

It is impossible not to dance or sing when listening to Gabbani’s song: it has more than 50 million views on Youtube only in Italy, but also in Europe people sympathize with the dancing monkey.

But why is he so successful?
Probably because his song is cool, direct, straightforward. Coming from Carrara, Gabbani grew up with his music and his passion, always determined to experience more.

His previous success Amen was already different from common songs, but Occidentali’s Karma will make the history of music for sure.

In Kiev, Ukraine, people are waiting for Gabbani. But the race will not be easy, as the Italian singer will have to compete with international artists, such as Robin Bengtsson, Salvador Sobral and Blanche.

Gabbani’s music is engaging, it makes you happy. Occidentali’s Karma is indeed appreciated even though its text is not in English.

If Gabbani wins, the Eurofestival will take place in Italy next year, according to tradition, in order to honour the winner.

It is true that the favourite singers are not always the winners though. The whirlwind Conchita Wurst, for example, who had been undererrated before the competition, in the end has become one of the most famous stars not only in Europe, but all over the world.
