London ONE Radio broadcasts Radio Radicale

London – London One Radio, the official Italian radio station in the UK is broadcasting everyday Radio Radicale’s news bulletin.

The Italian Government has recently passed a new law, known as ‘budget law” that cuts the funds to support broadcasting companies like Radio Radicale.

In this case Radio Radicale is in the situation of being forced to close down its station on  21st May.

Radio Radicale can be considered the Italian history’s archive, because it has been recording, collecting and documenting for 40 years relevant court trials, congresses of all Italian political parties, debates and CSM’s sessions

That is why London One Radio is mobilizing alongside those who are fasting in these days (Maurizio Bolognetti, historic militant of the Radical Party in Basilicata, for almost 50 days since last April 9th, Rita Bernardini, Maria Antonietta Farina Coscioni, Irene Testa, all three part of the Presidency of the Radical Party, and of Paola di Folco, militant of non-violent struggles).

Philip Baglini, Director of London One Radio, had already hosted an interview with Radio Radicale’s Director Alessio Falconio on March 21st. Given the approaching closure of the radio despite a great mobilization in Italy, with this gesture he also wants to help the Italian community in London to know what Italy is losing

The forecasts of the Italian food trading in the UK

London (M. Ragosta, M. De Rosa, Y. Zakomirnyy) – Over the years London has been hosting thousands of communities and the Italian families have been always hosted by the city, where the ‘Made in Italy’ also became part of the English daily routine. The Italian traditions, food and beverage are still considered the best in London where every year the Italian culture is celebrated by Bellavita Expo, the leading exhibition of Italian food and beverage.

Organised once a year, this time it took place at the Business Design Centre from June 17th to 19th, where the Italian gastronomic specialties have been promoted to thousands of English buyers and visitors.

The event, usually includes meetings with Michelin-starred chefs and masterclasses conducted by top chefs – such as Carlo Cracco, Francesco Mazzei and Theo Randall who attended this edition – mixologists, ‘pizzaioli’ and the best sommeliers.

However, the main idea of Bellavita is hosting  household names – coming from all the Italian regions – that usually showcase their products and traditions to all the attendees. In fact, the exhibitors’ stands offer authentic specialties you probably have never seen and tasted before as well as their stories that they shared also on London One Radio, which was the official radio of the exhibition.

At this edition, London One Radio and their team carried out their inquiry about what Londoners think about Italian food culture and Bellavita was an important chance to also understand what the exhibitors think about the UK-Italy trading relationship during and after Brexit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fgE9Gscw5Y&feature=youtu.be

One of the  common thoughts showed since 2016 refers to the potential customs’ mutations that might affect the Italian exportations. According to the results of the inquiry – lasted from 13th to 22nd June – 46.7% out of 2000 people interviewed believe that that could happen, rather than the other 53.13% who think otherwise. These people, in fact, state that Brexit could actually benefit the commercial relations between the UK and Italy.

Such beliefs are also supported by the latest data released by the Assocamerestero that point out the commercial positive outcome that Italy performed in the last few years, by becoming the second country in the field of international trading. Italy, in fact,  is commercially dominating various areas such as design, fashion, food and pharmaceutical exports in particular.

That is why the Italian diaspora is more motivated to improve their trading performance so that Raffaele Trombetta, the Italian Ambassador in London, underlined the priority of making the bonds between the countries stronger than ever as well as avoiding negative impacts on the Italian enterprises in the UK, once the country will definitely leave the EU in 2019.

Bellavita Expo was able even this year to promote the ‘Made in Italy’ in the UK by making the British people interested in the Italian food culture, what is probably lacking in Great Britain as the Italian minister of agriculture Alfredo Pecoraro Scanio stated on London One Radio at the exhibition.

Bellavita Expo finished with their Awards given to the products with the higher score in Food and Beverage categories. The winners were Andre Cunha who won the Best UK Sommelier, while Alberto Triglia gained the prize for the best Italian product, which was ‘Prosciutto di Parma cappellettoni in green eggs sfoglia’.

The exhibition is recognised as a representative part of  “Food for Soul”, a non-profit organisation that is fighting against food waste. In fact, Bellavita inherited the principle of “nothing should ever be wasted”, so partecipants have to work with neglected edible ingredients, incredibly increasing the chefs’ creativity.

Stefano Potortì: “London is a very competitive market, which rewards successful people”

London – by Chiara Fiorillo

Stefano Potortì, Italian entrepreneur and founder of “The Localist”, was interviewed by London One Radio and he talked about his business, giving hope to many young people who want to become businessmen.

“The Localist” is in St John Street, Farringdon, a very central zone. The closest stations are Barbican, St Paul’s, Chancery Lane and Farringdon. This area has many Italian characteristics and this creates a strong sense of community.

Stefano started working with his company Sagitter One to help London entrepreneurs finding the right location, staff and suppliers, as well as creating a brand and an internet website.

Starting from that experience, Potortì decided to create “The Localist”: it is open every day from Monday to Saturday; it is closed on Sunday.

How was the name “The Localist” created?

Almost by chance. At the beginning, we thought we should create something international, therefore after doing some brainstorming we suggested “The Optimist”. However, later our lawyer found out that “The Optimist” already existed. So, after some more brainstorming, we thought about “The Localist”.

You have been very brave during Brexit.

Yes. Actually, we don’t know where we will be in two years’ time, but we know that in every crisis time there are many opportunities.

I invested a lot and I am quite sure London will still be an open and multicultural city.

What about the menu?

We have a lot of dishes for all sorts of people: from three types of hamburger (meat, fish and vegetarian) to fish & chips, from pasta to meat, from grilled fish to salads. Fried peppers, which you can also eat as an aperitif, as a snack or to go with your cocktail, are our best-seller at the moment.

And for vegans?

There are two vegan salads and two vegan desserts, that is to say panna cotta and millefoglie.

What’s the mood of “The Localist”?

Everyone is very friendly: the team loves to interact with customers, creating a relaxing atmosphere. Also, the kitchen is in view, so sometimes chefs can talk to clients as well.

And what about music?

We have several playlists to play in different parts of the day and on different days of the week.

From June on, every Tuesday night we will have live music.

We think people should still be able to talk to each other in the restaurant, therefore music does not have to be too loud.

Then, every Thursday night we will have a dj playing from 6pm to midnight.

What would you suggest to a young entrepreneur who wants to kick-start his career?

You must work a lot, being able to offer a different product, being patient and letting other people know about your business. During the first months, you will invest a lot. But London is a very competitive market which rewards successful people.

Giacomo Favero: “Taking care of your mouth brings benefits to the whole body”

London – by Chiara Fiorillo

Giacomo Favero, an Italian dentist in London, comes from a family of dental practitioners. His passion for dentistry made him move to the UK, where he founded Favero Dental Clinic.

Favero was interviewed by London One Radio and he spoke about the importance of the mouth’s hygiene, mentioning products such as mouthwash and toothbrush.

How did you kick-start your adventure?

My adventure began in 2011-2012, when my father decided to expand our brand also in the UK. He decided to do so because the Italian community here is massive and most of the people feel like they need a personal contact with the doctor.

In England, dentists are not seen very positively by the Italian community, therefore we thought we should invest here to demonstrate that people could have someone to trust.

So, I moved to London to run the family clinic. The last five years have been tough, but now they are bringing good results.

Word of mouth is working very well. We have many Italian patients and this shows that we are doing our job properly.

You donate smiles in London.

Yes, smiling is like a business card. The mouth is where the beginning of the whole body starts. Taking care of your mouth brings benefits to the whole body.

How should we use the toothbrush?

In our mouth, we have both good and bad bacteria. It is very important to brush from the top to the bottom and from the bottom to the top, very lightly. Too much pressure may damage the gums.

How many times per day should we wash out teeth?

At least twice a day, in the morning and at night, for about 3 minutes. Mouthwash and Hymalaian salt are very important and useful for the cleanliness of the mouth.

What should we eat to protect our teeth?

Eating healthily is essential not only to keep our mouth clean, but also to keep our body wholesome. I would suggest to eat a lot of vegetables, such as celery: this makes us salivate, which protects our mouth. The food we should avoid is made up of sugars, which create acidity in our mouth.

Mediterranean diet is great. But keep in mind that you should always brush your teeth as well.
